The Main House

A Georgian house, full of character

The main house is Mountainstown at its most expressive. Rich colours, patterned rooms, tall windows and beautiful decorative detail create a setting that feels personal and full of history. The staircase and plasterwork speak to the house’s Georgian origins; the books, paintings and individual furnishings give each room a character of its own.

Dating from around 1720 and enlarged around 1811–1813, the house has the generous proportions that make a group stay feel special. The drawing room, dining room, library and billiards room offer different places to gather as the day moves from a quiet morning to a long evening together.

Room to make yourselves at home

There are ten bedrooms and six bathrooms in the main house. Bedrooms are individual in style, with different room arrangements, colours and furnishings. For families, couples and groups of friends, the room allocation is part of making the stay comfortable from the beginning.

Tell the estate team about the make-up of your party and any particular sleeping or access requirements. They can discuss the bedroom configuration and help you decide whether the main house alone, or additional estate accommodation, best suits your plans.
