Begin close to the house

Mountainstown is near Wilkinstown, north of Navan in County Meath. It is a place to build an itinerary around your interests, with heritage, countryside and towns to explore across the Boyne Valley. Choose a few highlights and leave enough time to enjoy the stay itself.

The Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway follows a former railway route between Navan and Kingscourt, with access at Wilkinstown. Consult the official route information when planning a walk or cycle, and choose a section to suit your group.

Brú na Bóinne & the Hill of Tara

The prehistoric monuments of Brú na Bóinne offer a remarkable encounter with Ireland’s ancient past. Visits to Newgrange and Knowth are managed through the visitor centre, and tickets should be booked directly through the official service. View the Brú na Bóinne visitor information for available tours and booking arrangements.

The Hill of Tara is associated with Ireland’s high kings and is a place to experience the landscape as well as its history. Much of a visit is outdoors, so plan for the weather and uneven ground.

Historic towns & hilltop monuments

The medieval town of Trim is home to an impressive Anglo-Norman castle. Check Trim Castle’s official visiting page before making plans, as seasonal opening and conservation works can affect access.

For another perspective on Meath’s ancient landscape, consider Loughcrew’s passage tombs near Oldcastle. The hill approach is steep and access to individual monuments can change, so read the current guidance and decide whether the walk suits your party.

Make the days your own

For food, local experiences and more ideas across the region, the official Boyne Valley visitor website is a useful place to begin. Book experiences and transport with the relevant providers, and leave space between plans for the pleasure of exploring.

If a particular attraction is central to your trip, confirm its availability before reserving travel. Opening times, tours and access arrangements can change; the links above take you to the organisations best placed to advise.

Planning an Irish journey around the Ryder Cup?

The 2027 Ryder Cup takes place at Adare Manor in County Limerick, with the event week running from 13–19 September and competition from 17–19 September. Mountainstown is in County Meath, so a stay here is best considered as another chapter of an Irish holiday before or after visiting the event. Plan the journey between the two regions separately.

See the official Ryder Cup information for event details. Mountainstown accommodation does not include event tickets, hospitality or transport.
